Steel Adjusting Wedges & Mounting Wedges (C45 Steel)

Our steel wedges are the industry standard for aligning heavy machinery, steel structures and concrete elements. Manufactured from high-quality C45 steel, these wedges provide the necessary hardness for the heaviest loads. Thanks to the unique angled design (one side 90 degrees) and specifically calculated angle of inclination, we guarantee stable fixation without the wedge slipping under pressure.

  • Material: High grade C45 steel (high pressure resistance).

  • Shape: Single-tapered (angled) for superior, stable fixation.

  • Safety: Self-locking angle prevents slipping under load.

  • Finish: Fully deburred in our own workshop.

How does a steel wedge work?

The operation of a steel wedge (or adjustment wedge) is based on the law of the inclined plane. The sharper the angle of the wedge, the greater the spreading or splitting force that can be exerted with it. When a steel wedge is driven between two objects, its tapered shape converts horizontal striking force into powerful vertical leverage. This allows heavy materials and machine parts to be set or pushed into place with extreme precision with minimal effort.

Maximum Stability: Self-Inhibiting and Safe

In heavy industry and civil engineering, shape retention is essential. Where softer steels can deform under extreme pressure, C45 steel maintains its integrity.

The advantages of the Euronique form:

  • Self-braking ability: Our wedges are cut at a specific, safe angle of inclination. This makes the wedge self-inhibiting; the friction is high enough to prevent the wedge from slipping out of the joint under load or vibration.

  • Angled back: Our wedges have one completely flat side. This keeps the force vector aimed purely vertically, resulting in unwavering alignment without the wedge “walking.

  • Safety: Each wedge is carefully deburred. This prevents cuts to mechanics and ensures a tight fit in tight openings.

Applications: From Concrete Saw to Machine Foundation

Our steel mounting wedges are used daily in various industries:

  • Mechanical engineering: Accurate leveling of heavy process plants on concrete foundations.
  • Concrete and Sawing Technology: For direct relief of cuts in cable cutting or concrete drilling to prevent pinching.

  • Steel construction: leveling columns and beams before final welding or casting.

  • Welding technology: As a robust aid for aligning and clamping workpieces.

Material choice: When do you choose steel, aluminum or bronze?

While our C45 steel wedges are the standard for heavy-duty construction, specific work environments require a different material. At Euronique, we recommend based on your application:

  • Corrosion Resistance & Weight: In shipbuilding or light assembly jobs, our aluminum wedges offer a solution. Aluminum is significantly lighter to handle and completely resistant to salt water and oxidation.

  • Low-spark environments (ATEX): Do you work in petrochemicals or an environment with explosion hazard? For safe flange maintenance and spark-free setting, we supply high-quality bronze wedges. Bronze prevents mechanical sparking on impact and is essential for safety in ATEX zones.

Ease of disassembly: When to choose a head wedge?

For many alignment jobs, a standard steel leveling wedge is sufficient. However, for temporary mounting or situations where the wedge needs to be removed again after some time, we recommend our steel head wedges.

A head wedge features a raised “nose” on the thick side. This offers a great advantage during disassembly: you can easily knock the wedge loose again or pull it out with a crowbar, even if it is stuck under extreme tension. Our head wedges, like the standard adjusting wedges, have a self-locking angle for maximum safety during use.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I have custom-made steel wedges?
Absolutely. In addition to our standard range of steel set wedges in C45, we offer custom work from our own sawmill. We can saw wedges in non-standard lengths, widths or with a specific angle of inclination for your project. Other material specifications, such as S235 structural steel, are also available upon request.

What is the point thickness of the steel wedges?
The steel wedges have a pointed tip of about 2 to 3 mm, making them easy to place in narrow joints or under heavy machinery.

What is the advantage of an angled (single-tap) wedge over a double-tap wedge?
An angled wedge (with one completely flat side) provides significantly more stability during the adjustment process. While a double-tapered wedge tends to “wander” or slip sideways under pressure, the flat back of our steel adjusting wedges provides clean, vertical force transmission. This is essential for accurate machine alignment.

What angle of inclination do the steel wedges have?
Our steel wedges are cut at a specific self-locking angle. This angle is technically optimally calculated: sharp enough to generate a large vertical elevator with minimal force, but blunt enough not to shoot out of joint under load or vibration. This guarantees safe and stable alignment in mechanical and steel construction.
